Two Local San Diego Plumbers to Receive RIGID Scholarships for Journeyman Program in 2013

Bill Howe Plumbing, Inc. Employees Awarded Scholarships and Tools to Assist in PHCC Journeyman Apprenticeship

Bill Howe Plumbing, Inc. is one of the largest family-owned and operated service and repair companies in San Diego. Plumbers working for Bill Howe have been proud to be a part of the Local Plumbing-Heating-Cooling-Contractors of San Diego (PHCC-SD) since 1985. They have steadily grown since opening their doors adding divisions in restoration and flood and heating and air conditioning repair with a continual focus on education and training for their 100 + employees.

On September 18, RIGID awarded four scholarships, through the Educational Foundation of the PHCC-National association to students enrolled in the apprenticeship programs. The scholarships, administered through the PHCC, are designed to attract new talent and increase training from the plumbing and HVACR industry. Tyler Mitchell and Nestor Holquin of Bill Howe Plumbing were awarded two of those four scholarships. Each will receive $1000 in tuition cost and $1500 in RIGID tools. Bill Howe Plumbing has opened the apprenticeship program to all interested employees. The company encourages the technicians to seek out the scholarship opportunities and pays the difference.

The well-known San Diego heating and air conditioning, plumbing and restoration company has had ten employees receive scholarships for the PHCC program including the RIGID award as well as from other organizations and the PHCC itself. Since 2008, Bill Howe Plumbing has had nine of their San Diego plumbers graduate from the PHCC Journeyman Apprenticeship Program and has twenty-one current students as well as two teachers in the PHCC-SD school for the 2013 year.

We are also happy to now have an HVAC division of the training program operational this year; it means a great improvement to our trade.”
