San Diego Plumbing Service Company Awarded for Improving the Youth in the Community

July 2, 2012 San Diego, Calif. – Bill Howe Plumbing, Inc., one of the largest family-owned San Diego plumbing service, heating, air conditioning, and restoration companies, is recognized for the second year in a row for continued community improvement efforts in San Diego. The company is proud to accept the second place 2012 Heilbron Award in the medium business category, sponsored by San Diego Rotary Club 33 and the San Diego Business Journal.

The Heilbron Awards, named after Carl Heilbron, first president of the San Diego Rotary Club 33 in 1911, recognize small, medium, and large public and private companies that exemplify the “pay-it-forward” spirit and give of themselves and their professional expertise to advance the well being and success of others in the community.  San Diego Rotary Club 33 is one of the largest in the country and among nearly 30,000 Rotary Clubs now active globally. The 2^nd Annual Heilbron Award ceremony took place on June 7, 2012 at the Sheraton San Diego Hotel & Marina. In the Heilbron Award’s inaugural year, Bill Howe Plumbing won first place for the role they play within the San Diego Job Corps.

While the company offers extensive community service to various organizations, i.e. San Diego Food Bank, American Heart Association, and Rebuild Together San Diego, this year’s Heilbron Award was specifically awarded to Bill Howe Plumbing for the generosity the San Diego plumbing service company has shown towards the Andrew Chapman Mentorship Training Program (ACMTP). The ACMTP was founded in 2008 by Bill Howe Plumbing technician, Andrew Chapman. When funding from the community ran out in 2011, Bill Howe personally offered the financial support needed to reignite the program. The unparalleled support of Bill and Tina Howe, allowed for the purchasing of parts, tools, books and resources, including paying for the facility located in Lemon Grove, creating an environment where troubled youths can learn a valuable trade and reenter the community with integrity and pride. Because of Bill Howe Plumbing’s support other organizations took notice and non-profit organization, Second Chance, added their resources to ACMTP helping Andrew find the students to participate in the program. Not only did they financially boost the program, Bill Howe Plumbing also organized a shadowing aspect for the students allowing them to work and learn alongside seasoned plumbing technicians three days a week for six weeks at a time. With the outstanding success of 2011, the three organizations involved (Second Chance, ACMTP and Bill Howe Plumbing) teamed up again in 2012 to mentor another group of students, training them to provide excellent San Diego plumbing service.
