The Bill Howe Family of Companies Celebrates Operations Manager, Transitions to Human Resources

Family-owned and operated San Diego plumbing company updates human resources department in 2014

February 28, 2014 San Diego, Calif. – Bill Howe Plumbing began as a father and son operation in 1980. They opened the doors of a small studio apartment and began what is now a well-established low cost and family owned San Diego plumbing company, with three divisions serving the needs of heating & air conditioning and restoration and flood services. For over 34 years, Bill Howe Family of Companies has consistently progressed forward improving services offered as well as the internal structure of the company.

019_resizedAmber Baynard, former Operations Manager, spent 2013 in the Human Resources Management Certificate Program through the San Diego Employment Association in order to transition into her new role as the head of the Human Resources Department in 2014. Amber is San Diego plumber, Bill Howe’s niece and she has been an integral part of successfully retaining the small “family operation” the local community has come to rely on since 1980. She began her career with Bill Howe Plumbing in 1997 as a part-time file clerk and customer service representative. After implantation of new software, that she helped train all staff on, it became apparent she was an invaluable asset and was hired on full time.

Since 1997, Baynard has worked in virtually every position at the San Diego plumbing Company and has used this experience as an advantage in Human Resources. “HR was the last part of the corporation that I was unfamiliar with, said Amber Baynard, Human Resources Manager. “I am excited for the opportunity and believe that it is a position best served with my intimate knowledge of the company and culture over the last 17 years.”

The restructuring of the Human Resources Department brings a clear channel of communication within the company and a direct place in which all employees can direct questions and needs. The implementation of dedicated HR also allows the company to stay abreast of the ever-changing laws that affect everything from wages, benefits, and on the job safety to the hot button topic that affects everyone across the country, health care.

Bill Howe sent us an amazing veteran plumber, Dashawn and his co- worker Anthony. Dashawn did a thorough check of the problem, explained what he thought was needed … he did a final check and we were able to see for ourselves what was the problem. He recommended a complete cleaning to de-scale the pipes, and not the major work we dreaded. Thanks to his solid analysis and patience in making sure we saw what he saw, the issue was resolved completely, and saved us thousands of unnecessary work. None of the other estimates included the cleaning; only the major repairs. Thanks to Dashawn’s knowledge, professionalism and honesty, we’re Bill Howe customers.

This was our second excellent experience with Bill Howe. We had a blocked kitchen sink drain 8/5. I was able to get a same day appointment which is AMAZING. Person on phone was very courteous and set me up right away. Tony arrived at the house (called me 30 minutes out so I was able to be ready). He diagnosed the issue (blocked drain, not the garbage compactor) and was able to snake it and ran the water for 10 minutes to be sure the drains were clear. He cleaned up everything and you would not have known he was even there. Thank-you Tony and Bill Howe, you always know how.
