San Diego Plumber Takes First Place at Spring Harp Fest 2014
Bill Howe Plumbing, Inc. and Tom Safreed, Field Supervisor, sponsor local music festival and take first place in “unknown players jam”
April 24, 2014 San Diego, Calif. – Well-known San Diego plumbing company, Bill Howe Plumbing, Inc. has been a long time supporter of community events. A proud sponsor of the American Heart Association for five years, the San Diego Burn Institute since 2012, and for the past five years, a prominent sponsor of the Spring Harp Fest. The local music festival celebrated its 15th year this month and Bill Howe Plumbing Field Supervisor, Tom Safreed, is proud to have been part of the organizations fundraising endeavors since 1999.
The Spring Harp Fest is an annual music event celebrating music education and American art form, “blues harmonica.” It is a free festival, family friendly, and 100 percent funded through local community support, donations and volunteers. Suggested donations of event attendees are $10, and all proceeds go towards music education in local schools. Spring Harp Fest is affiliated with Blues Lovers United of San Diego (BLUSD), a nonprofit organization, where contributions from Harp Fest are earmarked for harmonica inclusion in schools. In 2012, Spring Harp Fest was able to donate $1500.00 and 300 harmonicas to BLUSD.

The event was held on Saturday, April 19 at Harry Griffen Park in La Mesa. The lineup included Patrick “BlueFrog” Ellis, Dan “Dirty” Rice, “Harmonica John” Frazer, Eric Von Herzen with the Atomic Road Kings as well as many other notable Blues acts and Bill Howe Plumbing’s own, Tom Safreed, who played in the Unknown Players Jam. The San Diego plumber also took first place in the unknown player’s competition. “I love taking part in this event,” said Tom Safreed. “Playing the blues is a passion and I am lucky to work for an organization that helps me not only express that passion, but also helps raise much needed funds to continue making music education possible.”
The event was a great success and something Bill Howe Plumbing and Tom Safreed are happy to participate in each year. “Community involvement is very important,” said San Diego plumber and owner of Bill Howe Plumbing, Bill Howe. “We have to support the education of our kids in the community, and Spring Harp Fest is an event like no other.”
