Bill Howe Plumbing Honored with First Place as One of San Diego’s Healthiest Companies

Well-established San Diego Air Conditioning and Plumbing Company Recognized for its Wellness Initiatives with Local Award

May 14, 2013 San Diego, Calif. – Bill Howe Plumbing’s Family of Companies, one of San Diego’s largest family-owned businesses, has been offering expert services since 1980. Started by just one plumber, San Diego entrepreneur Bill Howe, the company quickly grew and has added heating and air conditioning and restoration and flood divisions creating a one-stop shop for San Diego residents’ home care needs. In addition to a mission for excellence in service, the San Diego air conditioning company seeks to pave the way for wellness in the trade industry with Tina Howe spearheading wellness initiatives in her new role as President of the Plumbing-Heating-Cooling-Contractors Association, San Diego division.

The Bill Howe Wellness team was present at the awards ceremony held on May 9, 2013 and it was a proud moment as they accepted the First Place Honor in the Third Annual San Diego’s Healthiest Companies sponsored by the San Diego Business Journal. The recognition honors local companies that implement strategies to improve health and wellness within their organization by developing workplace wellness programs and prioritizing health for their employees. Local businesses chosen as finalists and honored as winners in each category represent a group focused on health as a top priority, involve leader support and participation and create a culture of healthy lifestyles. As part of the criteria for receiving such an honor, companies must collect, analyze and measure the success of their investments into the wellness programs showing meaningful  results.

This is Bill Howe’s Family of Companies’ second time represented as a healthy-minded company. Promoting healthy and active lifestyles has been a key focus and goal for the local plumber. San Diego offers a wealth of resources for companies, and for the first year, Bill Howe hired BARR Workplace Wellness catapulting their existing wellness initiatives to a whole new level. “The clear sign of a successful wellness program is a high level of participation, and already Bill Howe is off to a running start with their efforts,” says Korben Konrady, CEO of BARR Corporate Health Coaches. “Our consulting team has designed a program that has already touched 100 percent of the employees by prescribing a combination of mandatory and voluntary programs.”

BARR Workplace Wellness Coaches are on site each week providing one-on-one health consultations, implementing stretching and workplace safety initiatives and supporting the Bill Howe Wellness Committee in their efforts to create a well-being culture in the company. The Bill Howe Family of Companies has a detailed health action plan including on site fitness such as yoga instruction, nutrition education and full biometrics screenings. Employees have also taken up the wellness torch as champions hosting events outside of work, such as a weekend hike at the newly opened Cowles Mountain Memorial Day Weekend. It is inspiring to see how they are supporting each other in making health priority.
