Team Leader Competition at Bill Howe Family of Companies Boost Productivity in San Diego Plumbers

Award-winning San Diego plumbing company develops incentive based program for field employees

In 2014, the Bill Howe Family of Companies created five new positions in the San Diego plumbing division. They interviewed existing field technicians interested in the Team Leader Position in order to help promote excellence, allow a direct line of communication between field employees and management, and to boost morale.

Each Team Leader has between 10-15 San Diego plumbers he is responsible for engaging in Bill Howe events, policies, concerns, and overall peer mentorship and training. Each Team Leader also has a dedicated Dispatcher in the office to offer support and help strengthen the team goals.

The Team Leader Program was a huge success in 2014, and helped to increase efficiency, arrival times, customer service, and company morale; field employees had a voice and a direct line to share their suggestions. One such suggestion was an incentive based competition between teams reinforcing Bill Howe policies.

By offering friendly competition around the policies and behaviors they already have, we instill camaraderie to work together, incentive to adhere and exceed all policies, and strengthen communications between team leaders, dispatchers and their teams.”

The most recent Team Leader Competitions were surrounding arrival times and customer service. Each team participated over a month long period (per competition) and the winning team, Team Leader, and Dispatcher all received a bonus check. The next Team Leader Competition is set to begin in November.
