Education & PHCC
Bill Howe has been a member of the San Diego Plumbing-Heating-Cooling-Contractor’s Association since 1984, and for more than 30 years has worked with the PHCC –SD to help improve the trade industry, his own plumbers’ education in San Diego and give back to the PHCC member and affiliate community.
The PHCC offers two advanced opportunities for training in San Diego: Journeyman Plumbing Apprenticeship program and a two-year HVAC Training Course. The PHCC Academy is federally recognized and approved by the Office of Apprenticeship and Department of Labor. The four year course consists of 156 hours of classroom instruction in mathematics, blueprint reading, safety, state and local plumbing codes and regulations.
Through the PHCC Academy’s Plumbing Apprenticeship Program, the community and industry benefit by having trained professionals entering the trade and protecting homeowners and business. Plumber graduating will be prepared to follow safety regulations, perform work under all current code and ensure that their customers receive quality work.
Bill Howe has been investing in his apprentices since the academy first opener. The four year Journeyman Apprenticeship program graduated its first class in 2012, of which Bill Howe had 8 students with many more in each year of the program. Since that first class, Bill Howe has helped to celebrate over 50 of its San Diego plumbers from the program, the most recent two in 2015.
For the 2016 year, Bill Howe will have 23 of its plumbers in San Diego attending the Journeyman Program and 4 of its HVAC apprentices in the two year HVAC-R program. Additionally, two of Bill Howe’s plumbers in San Diego will be teaching at the Academy.
The PHCC San Diego plumbing students are able to earn while working, allowing them to combine real world experience with applied knowledge form the classroom. All students are employed by licensed contractors providing on-the-job training.
