What To Do if Your Water Heater is Leaking
As we all know, water heaters are standard appliances in homes and businesses everywhere. They provide us with warm water for bathing, cooking, cleaning and more. While you may use this appliance on a daily basis without giving much thought to its function, most people quickly appreciate its benefits when they notice it has sprung a leak. That is when Bill Howe Plumbing can help. We are the San Diego water heater experts. With more than three decades of experience in repairing and installing San Diego water heaters, we can ensure that you’ll have hot water the same day of your call.
While some water heaters leak an excessive amount of water that is highly visible, other leaks may not be so apparent. One sign that you might have a water heater leak is if you don’t have hot water coming through other fixtures in your home. The leak may have put out the pilot light and stopped the heater from producing any more hot water. Another sign is if the temperature and pressure relief valve starts to drip or release a stream of water. It does this because the temperature or pressure of the water has exceeded its safety limits. A plumber should then be called to check the pressure to the house and make the necessary corrections. Another sign of a leak is if the water heater stand is wet or damp. Your water heater is insulated and therefore should never release condensation and your stand should be completely dry. And last, but not least, if there is any pooling of water near your water heater, you should have a San Diego water heater expert inspect your water heater immediately.
If you’ve determined that you have a water heater leak, follow these easy steps:
1. Shut off the water to your water heater – the shut off valve should be on the top of the water heater.
2. Turn off the water heater – turn the black knob on top of the gas control valve (there should be instructions on how to do this directly on your water heater, if you have any questions about this, call us and we’ll walk you through it).
3. Call Bill Howe plumbing! We have technicians who specialize in tankless and traditional water heater repairs and installations and we can come out the same day you call us to take care of the leak.
