We recently had a rep. from Bill Howe Plumbing at our house to do an estimate making an addition to the existing gas line to accomodate a new gas range. The gentleman was cordial but akward. After spending about 2 hours crawling around in my attic, he left us an estimate for $1200 to run 60 feet of tubing, which he said would take him about half a day. Sticker shocked, I asked for an itemized breakdown of the cost to get a better idea of why this simple four hour job was going to cost so much. He proceeded to tell me that the material was $10/foot and he had to take the time to go out to the warehouse and get the material.
I found the material locally through another plumber for half the cost, and had this other licensed plumber do the job for a fraction of what Howe quoted me. I’m sure these guys are good plumbers, but they are way too expensive. If money is no object, then it doesn’t matter who you use, but for the average working class homeowner, be prepared for sky high prices.
