San Diego plumbing company Human Resources Manger wins Mentorship award at YWCA Tribute to Women in Industry

Beginning in 1980, the YWCA pioneered programs to recognize outstanding achievements of their female employees leading to the TWIN Awards, Tribute to Women in Industry, a national program. These “inspirational awards spotlight women who are honored by their organizations executives, co-workers and friends.” TWIN is celebrated across the nation honoring women who have made a significant contribution to industry, recognizing women who serve their community, and organizations who perform outreach and humanitarian efforts. The award also serves to raise funds for YWCA programs such as Becky’s House Domestic Violence Programs, the Passages Program and Cortez Hill Family Center.

Amber Baynard began working for Bill Howe Plumbing, Inc. in 1997. What began as a summer internship with the small family company turned into a seventeen-year long career with a still-bright future. Amber was honored at the 2014 TWIN award for her role as a mentor within the Bill Howe Family of Companies, a role at which she excels. She seamlessly guides both her female colleagues and her male counterpoints in an industry that has very few women leaders. “I have been lucky to have great mentors of my own in my mother growing up and in business, Tina Howe, to help me be a great leader,” said Amber Baynard, Human Resources Manager, the Bill Howe Family of Companies. “In turn, I get to help the next generation of Howe family, also my cousins, become strong industry women.”

Amber Baynard is the niece of San Diego plumber, Bill Howe. She began answering phones and filing and has since worked in virtually every position within the company, even taking plumbing and heating classes alongside technicians. “Amber has been an integral part of our success over the years,” said Tina Howe, Vice President of the Bill Howe Family of Companies. “Her leadership and mentorship of the next generation of Howe women is inspiring and Bill and I can trust that our legacy will continue.”
