Tina came to the U.S. from England when she was 18-years-old and worked hard to establish a career. She has been integral to the company’s growth in an industry that is significantly male-dominated. She recently served as President of the Plumbing Heating Cooling Contractors Association in 2012-2013, where she was instrumental in the establishment of the HVAC Apprenticeship Program and currently serves on the PHCC Academy Board. She continues to be an inspiration to women who are establishing careers in this industry, specifically within our company. Since 1984, Tina has juggled a successful career and a family. She inspires her daughters, two of which are working within leadership roles at the company, as well as her niece who is the Human Resources Manager. As an avid runner Tina has completed running a marathon in each continent, which includes running the Great Wall of China and the Antarctic Ice Marathon. Tina was also a recipient of the San Diego Business Journal’s 2010 & 2013 Women Who Mean Business Honoree Award and the San Diego Business Journal’s 2012 Chief Financial Officer of the Year Finalist Award.
Tina is active in community outreach and charitable efforts. Since 2010, she has partnered the Bill Howe Family of Companies with the American Heart Association with generous annual donations while promoting heart health and healthy living to the San Diego community with the “Howe Healthy is your Heart Drawing Contest.” She is also a sponsor for the “Go Red for Women,” helping to raise awareness of the number one killer in women: heart disease and stroke. She encourages her female staff to get regular checkups and know their numbers. She knows that this is an industry with high stress and understands the importance of balance management, and she ensures that part of her mentorship focuses on reaching their personal and professional goals without forgetting to take care of themselves, especially in such a fast paced, male dominated trade where often, women have to work harder to be taken seriously.
In addition to the large annual donation and heavy involvement in the AHA, Tina is an avid supporter of the extensive list of interests and organizations that the employees and their families are involved with. She has an open door policy and the Bill Howe employees are comfortable approaching Tina for any request. She sponsors little league, Girl Scouts, individual educational opportunities and all manner of fundraising events.
She is also a dedicated community volunteer and spearheads a group of “Bill Howe Volunteers” in donating their time at the San Diego Food Bank. 2015 has seen record numbers attend the monthly night of volunteering through her initiatives. Tina’s generosity of spirit and dedication has spread and inspires employees to continue to “pay-it-forward.”
Tina encompasses all that is inspiring in an individual. She has an unwavering dedication to her family and profession, and does not look to the future for her own gain, rather promotes excellence in the people in her life, including the many young women she mentors professionally and personally. Never one to step into a task half way, she is a doer and continues until she meets or exceeds her goals. She has a generous spirit and tenacious drive that have led to her tremendous success in business, family and personal achievements.
