SDG&E® offers rebates on qualifying ENERGY STAR® natural gas and electric storage water heaters.

When purchasing a new water heater, choose an energy-efficient model. A water heater’s energy efficiency is rated by its Energy Factor (EF) – a metric that rates energy performance.

$30  or $75 Rebate on Gas Storage Water Heaters

• Efficient natural gas storage water heaters must have an Energy Factor (EF) of 0.62 or greater to qualify for the $30 rebate or 0.67 or greater to qualify for the $75 rebate. Look for the EF rating on the water heater specification sheet or on the packaging box; it does not always appear on the water heater label itself. This rebate is limited to natural gas storage water heaters that are 30 gallons or greater. If qualifying product is replacing an existing unit, the existing unit must be natural gas.

$30 Rebate on Electric Storage Water Heaters

• Efficient electric storage water heaters must have an Energy Factor (EF) of 0.93 or greater. Look for the EF rating on the water heater specification sheet or on the packaging box; it does not always appear on the water heater label itself. This rebate is limited to electric storage water heaters that are 30 gallons or greater. If qualifying product is replacing an existing unit, the existing unit must be electric.

*Note: Not all ENERGY STAR-rated water heaters qualify for a rebate. Only models with the required EF rating will qualify for a rebate.
