The San Diego Plumber’s Sponsorship Drawing Contest ends successfully at Annual Heart Ball Event

June 13, 2013 San Diego, Calif. – Bill Howe Plumbing and the American Heart Association have teamed up for the third year to sponsor the “Howe” Healthy is Your Heart Drawing Contest. In the three month long contest, the San Diego air Conditioning and plumbing company celebrated with several events including a kick-off Party in January at The New Children’s Museum in Downtown San Diego, presentation to age category winners at Garden Road Elementary Flag Day and ending with the grand prize winner and family attending the American Heart Association’s the San Diego Heart Ball on June 8, 2013.

The black-tie optional affair started on the beach outside of the Del Coronado Hotel with a cocktail hour and presentation of the auction items up for bid. Included in those auction items were a 3-strand pearl necklace donated by diamond Boutique, a seven night getaway for two to Cabo San Lucas, and a Corum Men’s Admiral’s Cup 48mm Luxury Timepiece to name a few. The 2013 San Diego Heart Ball was a great success with over 350 people in attendance and raising over $600,000 dollars that will go towards research for stroke and heart disease. As part of the sponsorship, the San Diego plumbers donate $25,000 annually.

Bill and Tina Howe were proud to sponsor the AHA Heart Beach Ball once again, this is the third year of the San Diego plumber’s sponsorship of the AHA that includes the annual three month long “Howe” Healthy is Your Heart Drawing Contest. The Contest ran from February 1^st to March 29^th and contestants had the chance to win one of the following prizes: (1) Grand Prize: a $250 gift card to Toys “R” Us® and tickets for the winner and his/her parents to the American Heart Association’s Heart Beach Ball at the Hotel del Coronado where the winner is recognized and his/her drawing is highlighted throughout the event; (2) Runners-up: four runners-up each received a $100 gift card to Toys “R” Us®. Additionally, every participant will receive the “Heart Health at Home” guide filled with fun ways to stay active and healthy at home.

June 10, 2013 San Diego, Calif. – Bill Howe Plumbing, Inc. is one of the largest family-owned and operated service companies specializing in plumbing, restoration and flood services, and heating and air conditioning. San Diego has been home to Bill Howe since 1980 and they have been recognized for the third year in a row for their continued dedication to their community. The San Diego plumber, grown to a family of companies, is proud to accept first place in the 2013 Rotary Club’s San Diego Heilbron Community Service Award in the medium sized business category, sponsored by the San Diego Business Journal.

The Heilbron Awards, named after Carl Heilbron, first president of the San Diego Rotary Club 33 in 1911, recognize small, medium, and large public and private companies that exemplify the “pay-it-forward” spirit and give of themselves and their professional expertise to advance the well being and success of others in the community. San Diego Rotary Club 33 is one of the largest in the country and among nearly 30,000 Rotary Clubs now active globally. The third Annual Heilbron Award ceremony took place on June6, 2013 at the Sheraton San Diego Hotel & Marina. In the Heilbron Award’s inaugural year, Bill Howe Plumbing won first place, they were recognized in second place in its second year and for the third year, they have been honored with first place for the great philanthropic work they do each year.

Bill Howe Plumbing was recognized for their many efforts in strengthening their community and industry through outreach programs such as their partnership with San Diego Job Corps. The San Diego plumber first partnered up with the at-risk youth program over ten years ago and has since been a pioneer in the industry mentoring young adults in need of career training. Bill Howe Plumbing is currently the only service company that trains students from the Job Corps alongside seasoned plumbers and drain technicians. For the 2013 year, they have also opened up the same program for transitioning military in need of a new career path.

In addition to fostering youth programs aimed at elevating industry standards in the san Diego community, Bill Howe Plumbing has a dedicated volunteer team that has been donating their time to the San Diego Food Bank for the past four years as well as numerous community events such as the American Heart Association’s Annual Heart Walk and several beach clean-ups each year.

Well-known San Diego Plumber Will Attend the Elegant Event for the Third Year with the 2013 Winner of the “Howe” Healthy is Your Heart Drawing Contest

June 3, 2013 San Diego, Calif. – Bill Howe Plumbing, Inc., one of San Diego’s largest family-owned plumbing, heating, air conditioning, and restoration companies has been sponsoring the American Heart Association in San Diego for three years with the “Howe” Healthy is your Heart Drawing Contest. The sponsorship includes a $20,000 annual donation and a 3-month long contest for children in the community raising awareness for heart health and providing valuable funding for research. The San Diego plumber has been a significant leader in community outreach and has already signed on for the 2014 and 2015 years as a sponsor for the AHA with the “Howe” Healthy is Your Heart Drawing Contest.

The culminating event of the 3-month long team-up between the San Diego plumber and the AHA is a gala ball held at the Del Coronado Hotel. This year’s event will take place Saturday, June 8. From 5-6, the Hotel Del Coronado opens up the beach for a cocktail reception making the AHA San Diego Heart Ball the only ball in town where “no shoes are required.” In 2012, the Heart Ball campaign efforts raised just over $51 million dollars nation-wide to fund over $123 million in research and programs across the country as well as within the local community.

As part of the Grand Prize presented to the winner of the AHA and Bill Howe Drawing contest, the winning entrant and family are invited to the heart Ball with Bill and Tina Howe, owners of one the largest low-cost company specializing in plumbing, restoration and AC repair. San Diego has been home to Bill Howe Plumbing since 1980 and part of the mission has always included giving back to the community. The 2013 Grand Prize Winner comes from Poway and entered through Twin Peaks Elementary School. Olivia Dowd and her mother, Robin came in to meet Tina Howe and collect the first prize of $250 Toys R’ Us gift card and are looking forward to attending the gala ball at one of San Diego’s most popular resorts.

HERS Ratings & Your San Diego Heating And Air System

As you might recall, back in October 2005, the California Energy commission established new requirements for HVAC systems throughout the state. The requirements stated that ducts inside residences must be tested for leaks whenever a central air conditioner or furnace is installed or replaced. Additionally, any ducts found to be leaking 15% or more were required to be repaired in order to reduce leaks.

However, these 2005 requirements allowed for several exemptions including:

Homes in specific coastal climates.
Systems having less than 40 feet of ductwork in unconditioned spaces like attics, garages, crawlspaces, basements or outside the building.
Ducts constructed, insulated or sealed with asbestos.

As a result, numerous San Diego heating and air systems evaded the new requirements. But, as of January, 2014, San Diego HVAC systems that previously avoided the changes to California’s HERS Ratings will no longer be exempt. This coming year, all residences, regardless of location, ductwork size and construction, will need to submit their systems to testing whenever their central air conditioner or furnace is installed or replaced.

This update to the rating is actually beneficial since ensuring your ductwork is not leaking in excess can reduce both your energy consumption and your electric bill.
